Intro to CBD

The hemp plant, a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species, contains more than 100 naturally occurring, active compounds called cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the intoxicating cannabinoid in marijuana.

The amount of THC in hemp is insignificant, but cannabidiol (CBD), a non-intoxicating and medicinally rich compound, is found in high concentrations in certain strains of the plant, as are other beneficial phytonutrients and other substances.

After harvesting the plant, New Spectrum extracts CBD oil from the hemp stalks, leaves, and flowers by means of CO2 (using pressure and heat). Unlike marijuana, the hemp plant will not get you high, and CBD oil derived from hemp cannot contain more than 0.3% THC if the intent is to sell it legally throughout the country.

What is CBD Balm?

CBD balms are concentrated, waterless topical moisturizers that are made by infusing CBD into a blend of organic beeswax, regenerating fatty oils, and essential oils in order to naturally protect, nourish, and soothe every type of skin.

CBD balms tend to be thick, waxy, and almost solid. CBD salves, although similar, are usually softer. And CBD creams and lotions are thinner because they are typically made from water.

What does CBD balm do?

While hemp oil extracts, taken sublingually (under the tongue), are excellent for overall body conditions such as insomnia, anxiety, and stiffness, a CBD balm or lotion can be better for treating more localized conditions like joint pain or inflammation, arthritis pain, or aching muscles.

CBD balms and topicals, such as our Topical Joint and Muscle Pain Relief Balm, are designed to be used directly on the skin. Apply them right to trouble areas so that the CBD oil can work where it’s needed most.

Cautions

  • Do not apply topical treatments to irritated or broken skin
  • Wash your hands immediately after application
  • Don't touch or rub your eyes when you have topical products on your hands
  • If the balm causes redness, irritation or soreness, discontinue use and wash the area immediately.
