What is CBD?

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a cannabinoid that is found in cannabis plants. Unlike its better-known counterpart tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce the psychoactive effects that are associated with marijuana use. In fact, CBD has been shown to have a range of potential therapeutic benefits, including reducing inflammation and anxiety, relieving pain, and combating seizures. The discovery of CBD's potential therapeutic benefits has led to an increase in its popularity, and it can now be found in products ranging from oils and tinctures to cookies and ice cream. CBD is also being studied as a possible treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and multiple sclerosis.

So what is CBD?

Cannabinoids are a class of compounds that interact with receptors in the body's endocannabinoid system. CBD and THC are the most well-known cannabinoids, but there are dozens of others. These receptors play a role in many different processes, including appetite, mood, memory, and pain perception. When you consume cannabis or CBD products, the cannabinoids interact with these receptors. This interaction can produce a variety of effects, depending on the type of cannabinoid and the receptor it interacts with. For example, THC interacts with receptors that are responsible for regulating pleasure, coordination, time perception, and memory. This interaction can cause the "high" associated with marijuana use. CBD interacts with different receptors than THC does, so it does not produce this effect but instead has a variety of potential therapeutic benefits. It also means that CBD products are legal in all 50 states.

History of CBD's Use

CBD has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries. In ancient China, it was used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including headaches, pain, and gastrointestinal issues. CBD's use spread throughout Asia and the Middle East and eventually made its way to Europe and the Americas. CBD was first isolated in the 1930s, but its potential therapeutic benefits were understood until the 1960s. Since then, CBD has been the subject of numerous studies and has been shown to have a wide range of potential therapeutic uses. Yet, more clinical studies are still required to fully understand the extent of CBD’s therapeutic properties as well as uncover potential new therapeutic applications.

How is CBD Used?

CBD can be consumed in a variety of ways. It can be taken in the form of capsules, oils, or tinctures. It can also be added to food or beverage or inhaled using a vaporizer or by smoking hemp. CBD is also available in topical form, which can be applied to the skin. The methods of consumption will affect how long it takes for the effects of CBD to be felt and how long they last. For example, when taken orally, CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream and then metabolized by the liver. This means that it can take up to two hours for the effects of CBD to be felt. When used topically, CBD is absorbed by the skin and enters the blood. This allows for faster absorption and more immediate effects.

While research on CBD is still in its early stages, there is growing evidence that it has a range of potential therapeutic benefits. These benefits include reducing inflammation and anxiety, relieving pain, and combating seizures. More research is needed to determine the full extent of CBD's potential therapeutic benefits, but there is already enough evidence to suggest that it could be a valuable treatment option for a variety of conditions.

Additionally, CBD is generally considered safe and well-tolerated. The most commonly reported side effects include dry mouth, fatigue, and reduced appetite.

Not All CBD is Created Equal

CBD can be found in a isolated form but arguably the most effective form of CBD is part of a Full Spectrum Hemp Oil Extract. This extract can be 60%-80% CBD but includes important minor cannabinoids, terpenes and phytonutrients.
